Japan. Canada. Germany. Austria. Belgium. Brazil. Denmark. Finland. France. Ireland. Italy. Mexico. The Netherlands. Sweden. Taiwan. England. Companies in all these countries operate sites in Middle Tennessee‚ illustrating the concept that strategic location and a positive business environment translate into any language.
Luring foreign investment is a successful enterprise for the Nashville area‚ where foreign-owned companies produce automobiles and vehicle parts‚ gas grills‚ farm machinery‚ books and magazines‚ dishwashers and stoves‚ porcelain and ceramic tile‚ and a host of other products.
Another facet to international business is selling Middle Tennessee’s products and expertise abroad. The Nashville area’s health-care industry is making groundbreaking strides in that regard. The Nashville Health Care Council‚ an affiliate of the Nashville Area Chamber‚ has partnered with the Chamber to organize five international trade missions starting in 1999. Middle Tennessee health-care leaders have visited Great Britain‚ Germany‚ France‚ Spain‚ Italy‚ the Netherlands and‚ most recently‚ Hungary and the Czech Republic. A 2006 mission to Poland and Austria is in the planning stages.
Thanks to one trade mission‚ the Nashville-based CFP Group is helping design‚ construct‚ renovate and equip surgery centers in the United Kingdom.
The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce is actively responding to an increasingly global economy in a number of ways. GO International is a perfect example.
In 2002‚ the Chamber’s International Business Center launched the GO International campaign‚ designed to identify Middle Tennessee companies with little or no international business activity and offer them peer-to-peer access to some of the region’s most successful exporters.
Also under the auspices of the Chamber‚ the International Business Council offers a forum to encourage and assist businesses in international markets‚ while the Nashville Area International Business Center partners with several organizations to develop market-entrance strategies and help businesses with domestic and foreign regulatory requirements.
In addition to looking out to the world beyond‚ Nashville also focuses on the multicultural nature of the region. The Chamber has taken a strong leadership position in helping to bring companies‚ immigrants and refugees together. The goal is to match skills to workforce needs‚ as well as to help create an understanding of cultural differences‚ thus ensuring that those who have chosen to move to the Nashville region have a quality of life that not only meets but exceeds their expectations.
