Known as the birthplace of investor-owned healthcare‚ Nashville is the headquarters of HCA‚ which owns approximately 200 hospitals and 82 outpatient surgery centers in 23 states‚ Switzerland and England. Nashville-area HCA hospitals‚ known for their surgical and cardiovascular care‚ include Centennial Medical Center‚ Southern Hills Medical Center‚ Summit Medical Center‚ Skyline Medical Center‚ Hendersonville Hospital and Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. Centennial‚ HCA’s flagship hospital‚ was selected in December 2003 as one of the Top 100 cardiovascular hospitals in America by Solucient‚ a leading health-care business intelligence company.
Saint Thomas Hospital‚ founded in 1898‚ is nationally recognized for its outstanding cardiac and cancer units.
